Playful Exchange… Where a little give-and-take and shared creativity brings lots of laughter — and a few surprises on the dance floor!

Most social dancers reach a point where they know plenty of moves… but something still feels missing. The dancing works…. but it doesn’t always sparkle!

This workshop focuses on the elements that turn a good dancer into a sought-after one: connection first, then conversation.

We’ll start the session with the foundations that actually make a difference, creating clear, comfortable connection — and then we play.

Using connection, we’ll explore how to add pauses, change dynamics, and give your favourite moves a completely different feel. Not by learning loads of new patterns, but by changing how you use the ones you already know.

In Modern and Smooth Jive it’s easy to fall into set roles — the lead decides, the follow responds. In our Playful Exchange workshop, both roles become active. Instead of simply leading and following patterns, the dance becomes a conversation. Followers can shape a moment, highlight the music, add texture or pause. Leads learn to respond, adapt, and create in real time.

Dee Lanning

Dee discovered Modern Jive over 20 years ago and quickly fell in love with the joy and connection of dance. She shares her experience and passion with dancers of all levels, helping them build confidence, refine their technique, and add style and flair to every move. Known for her enthusiasm, infectious energy, and strong sense of community, Dee brings warmth and fun to every class.

Dee has also recently stepped onto the competition floor, achieving over 20 competition placements since 2023 and is the current International Modern Jive Open Champion.
